BOURNEMOUTH Poppies and Bemerton will on Tuesday resume battle for a place in the first qualifying round of the FA Cup following an entertaining stalemate at Western Way yesterday.

The Wessex Premier rivals created and squandered a hatful of chances between them and will duel at Victoria Park for £1,925 in prize money and a trip to Winchester City on September 13.

Winchester will lay claim to having pulled off something of a giant-killing after their 2-0 victory dumped out Southern League Division One South & West strugglers Bashley.

A tie which is unlikely to live too long in the memory was settled by Warren Bentley’s double with Bash showing spirit but little craft as they attempted to wipe out his seventh and 83rd-minute goals.

Bash: Maher, Morris, Moore, King, Rose, Oldring, Kinley, L Speechley-Price, Morse (Booker, 75), Roushbaiani (Dugdale, h-t), Brading (Hall, h-t). Unused sub: Aurow.

Poppies: Vaughan, Khider, Jacobs, Burgis (Toy, h-t), Doe, Saadi, Robinson, Bassiriki, Pekun, Fairbrother, Phillips (Meyer, 66). Unused subs: Dibigbo, Sullivan, Arthur.

  • Goals either side of half-time from Sam Cummings and Mark Pudney earned Ringwood Town a 2-0 win over Wessex One rivals Laverstock & Ford at Long Lane.

Cummings was credited with the final touch after a long throw had caused mayhem in the visitors’ six-yard box before Pudney’s stunning 30-yarder confirmed Ringwood’s supremacy.

Also in Wessex One, Jack Dickson netted in New Milton’s 1-1 draw at Tadley Calleva as both teams dropped their first points of the season.

Ringwood: Iles, Parnell (Carkeet, 75), Leadbetter, Johnston, Barber, Gritt (Chilman, h-t) Cummings, Taylor, Edwards, Aspin (Barwood, 80), Pudney.
