LUCKLESS Shane Sheridan made an unwanted entry into the Bournemouth Poppies record books – for one of the shortest debuts in club history.
The striker, signed on the eve of Poppies’ 2-2 draw at Wessex Premier rivals Horndean, lasted barely 90 seconds before he succumbed to a back injury.
Sheridan was thrust into the fray as a 44th-minute substitute for Fawzi Saadi, only to be replaced at the interval by Harry Cooper.
Poppies were forced to come from 2-0 down at Five Heads Park.
Horndean appeared on course to make it three wins on the trot after first-half goals from Lewis Stockford and Mark Smith had put them in the ascendancy.
However, Marc Fairbrother’s strike on the stroke of half-time halved the deficit before Poppies were forced into a reshuffle following Sheridan’s misfortune.
And Ken Vaughan’s men claimed a point when Connor Doe popped up with an equaliser eight minutes from time.
Poppies: Vaughan, Martinez, Bolger- Wood (Nhemachena, 60), Doe, Pearce, Saadi (Sheridan, 44, Cooper, h-t), Hales, Bassiriki, Pekun, Fairbrother, Khider. Unused subs: Arthur, Sullivan.
- CHRISTCHURCH’S miserable start to their Wessex Premier campaign continued as they suffered a 4-3 defeat at Bemerton Heath.
Adie Arnold’s side, bidding to avoid a hat-trick of reverses, took an early lead during a topsy-turvy encounter at Harlequins’ Western Way.
Dan Steer opened the scoring after six minutes before the hosts hit back to forge ahead, their second goal coming from a disputed penalty.
Although Mark Smith levelled for the visitors from the spot, Harlequins netted twice before Harry Morgan pulled one back late on.
Priory: Bray, Wilkinson, Steer, Clark, Dodd, Roberts (Morgan, 73), Smith, Cullen, Lovell, Vining, Hill.
- Kabba Jack netted twice as New Milton Town got their Wessex One campaign off to a flier, his double helping them to a 4-2 win over relegated Romsey Town.
Substitute Rob Teppett and Sam Davidson were also on target at Fawcett’s Field as Linnets came from behind to claim all three points.
Linnets: Broome, Odell, Ohameji, Drew, Davidson, Head (Scott, 50), Dickson, Barnett (Shering, 75), Woolmer (Teppett, 75), Jack, Bayston. Unused sub: Lambert.
- Also in the Wessex Premier, Charlie Gajic netted Verwood’s consolation in their 4-1 home defeat by Alresford, while Lymington went down 3-0 at Newport.
