DORSET kept alive their hopes of Group One progress after seeing off hosts Cornwall by 37 runs in the Unicorns Knockout Trophy.

Spurred on by the excellent bowling of Mark Wolstenholme and James Hayman, the visitors comfortably defended their innings of 161 at Grampound Road.

Cornwall won the toss and elected to field first, making a swift breakthrough when debutant Gordon Whorlow was trapped leg before by James Turpin.

And despite a brief recovery, Dorset appeared in considerable trouble at 64 for five.

However, skipper Chris Park and Max Waller put on 60 for the next wicket before the latter was caught by Turpin off Matthew Robins.

Park continued to an unbeaten 49 as his team finished the 50 overs with nine wickets down.

Wolstenholme (3-45) and Hayman (3-27) quickly got stuck into the Cornwall top order, shifting matters to 42 for four, while Brad Currie soon earned a wicket of his own.

The partnership of Paul Smith (42) and Mark Gribble (33) proved resistant for a while but once wicketkeeper Park had gloved from Gribble, Cornwall collapsed.

Just 19 runs were put on for the final four wickets, handing Dorset a straightforward win.

Park's troops face leaders Berkshire in their final Group One game.
