DORSET skipper Chris Park revealed how a desire to adopt a more aggressive approach had been behind the decision to shift Jake Lintott up the batting order.

Lintott impressed with the willow as the Dean Park side opened their pre-season with a seven-wicket win over reigning Western Division champions Wiltshire on Monday.

The 21-year-old right-hander had been pushed up to the role of opener alongside Masoor Khan and hit a strident 63 at Calne Cricket Club, which included six fours and three sixes.

And Dorset will hope that Lintott can maintain that form when they host Hampshire II in another one-day clash on Sunday (11am).

Park told the Daily Echo: "We moved Jake to the top of the order in one-day cricket in order to be more positive and aggressive.

"A lot of teams at the World Cup tried to take advantage of the powerplays and that's what we're going to try and do as Jake is probably our most aggressive batsman.

"In the past two or three years our one-day cricket has not been very good at all. It's been our weak link. We needed to change something because we could not keep underperforming.

"Jake opens the batting for his club side and he is happy to do that for us as well, and it paid off for us in the first friendly. Long may that continue."
