LYMINGTON will play Fawley in the first round of next year’s Royal London ECB national club cricket championship – provided the pair can find somewhere to play.
Simon Beetham’s Southern Electric Premier League outfit have already conceded home advantage because the town Sports Ground will still be hosting football on April 26, when the cricket cup tie is due to be played.
But Fawley have similar difficulties, as football will also still prevail at Holbury come late April.
Veteran Lymington campaigner Tony Wharton has a possible solution – rain!
“If it’s washed out on April 26, we can play a week later and that might be the answer,” he joked.
Neighbours New Milton set sail to the Isle of Wight in the first round and face a demanding test in Ventnor’s Steephill Bowl.
“It’s an iconic venue but never an easy place to go and win,” said Milton skipper Ryan Beck.
Bashley (Rydal) are paired away to Premier Division rivals Burridge, whose ground is notoriously wet in the early part of the season.
