STRUGGLING Wimborne fell victim to an early bowling blitz from Poole Town’s Jamie Thomas en route to a fourth defeat of the Dorset Saturday League season.

Thomas (4-10) made light work of the Minstermen’s top order and kept things tight with no fewer than six maidens in his mean 10-over spell.

Opener Tom Caines went for single figures before Simon Woodruff, David Guest and James Williams were all dismissed without score with Wimborne left reeling on 12 for four.

It got no better for the visitors who were reduced to 35 for seven prior and despite the last-ditch re-sistance of Ben Ratcliffe (19) and Tom Butcher (28), James Miller’s men were wiped out for 111.

The weather disrupted matters and Poole got off to a terrible start in response as Williams (2-21) and Caines (2-11) made swift progress and reduced the Dolphins to nine for four.

However, Richard Armstrong (20) and David Miller (25*) dug deep and Poole emerged victori-ous with 74 for seven thanks to a quicker run rate, despite another flurry from Wimborne’s eye-catching youngster Harry Beardsley (3-17).

Elsewhere, bottom-club Fern-down Wayfarers were put to the sword as Stalbridge won by 115 runs at Dolman’s Farm.

Ben Fryer (57), Chris Hedges (51) and Ian Moore (50) all posted strong totals as the visitors clocked up 277 for seven from their 50 overs.

Stuart Sweatman (4-20) quickly killed off the contest as Jake Brooks and Will Avery were seen off without score, while Andy Dike (4-34) butchered his way through Ferndown’s middle order.

Ferndown opener Ben Peake (35) and tail-ender Connor Coppard (33*) scored well but the hosts could only muster 162.
