ON-LOAN striker Islam Slimani is out of Newcastle United's trip to Cherries after suffering a setback in training.

The 29-year-old arrived at St James's Park with a thigh problem having joined from Leicester City on deadline day.

Newcastle boss Rafael Benitez said: "Slimani had a setback so he will not be available. It will be at least a couple of weeks.

"We worked really hard to try to bring players in to give us something different in the Premier League. We knew he was carrying a small injury.

"Everyone was expecting him to make the difference but after the game against Manchester United, we at least feel we have enough quality in the squad.

"Hopefully, he will still help us in the next games."

Slimani's misfortune comes at a time when there is real positivity within the Newcastle camp following the shock 1-0 win over Jose Mourinho's United side.

However, Benitez has warned his players that will count for little if they allow their standards to drop at Vitality Stadium.

He said: "For us, every game is like a final. When you have played so well against one of the top sides, you are expected to do well again, so we have to make sure we perform.

"This is an opportunity to get three points."
