JASON Tindall admitted “fantastic servant” Lewis Grabban would be frustrated by his lack of match minutes but backed the frontman to deliver against former club Millwall – if selected.

Ex-Norwich City star Grabban has scored just once in 21 appearances since rejoining the Dorset club 12 months ago for an undisclosed fee believed to be around £7million.

The 28-year-old has not featured for Cherries since scoring in the 3-2 EFL Cup defeat to Preston at the end of September and has just 57 minutes of Premier League football to his name this term.

Twelve months into a three-and-a-half year contract, the south Londoner is due to be in the squad for tomorrow’s FA Cup third-round clash with League One Millwall (3pm), an away fixture he missed out on when Cherries played their final game of the 2013-14 Championship season.

Reflecting on Grabban’s endeavour behind the scenes, Tindall told the Daily Echo: “Grabbs has really impressed us. He has not been a minute’s problem. Every day he comes in and works really hard. He has shown a fantastic attitude and has been excellent in training.

“That’s all you can ask of any player. He will be frustrated at not playing every week but that’s the game. All you can do is train to the best of your ability and when that opportunity comes round you are best conditioned to deliver a performance everybody knows you are capable of.

“I can’t speak highly enough of Lewis Grabban and the way he has conducted himself.

“He will be in the squad. There are quite a few players who you could say want and need the games. Grabbs is one who is looking forward to the game and, if selected, I’m sure he’s going to deliver a good performance.

“It’s important for every player selected to play for the team and perform to the best of their ability. It’s no different for players like Lewis Grabban than it is for Andrew Surman, Steve Cook and Callum Wilson. Whenever they are selected, all you ask is for them to give their best.

“Grabbs has been a fantastic servant for this football club and has done extremely well for us. We’re expecting nothing different from him if he is selected.”

Grabban initially joined Cherries for £300,000 from Rotherham in the summer of 2012 and made an inauspicious start to his Dean Court career under Paul Groves and Shaun Brooks.

But he flourished under Eddie Howe and hit 13 goals to help the club finish as runners-up in League One in 2013.

Grabban saw his stock rise sharply after he netted 22 times for Cherries in 2013-14 and finished the campaign as one of the leading goalscorers in the Championship.

His exploits also saw him become the first Cherries player in history to bag more than 20 goals in a second-flight campaign, passing Luther Blissett’s total of 19 in 1988-89.
