STEVE Cook has incurred the wrath of Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp after admitting Cherries targeted Reds goalkeeper Loris Karius as "a weakness".

Centre-half Cook starred in the 4-3 win over the Merseysiders at Vitality Stadium last Sunday, rifling home a leveller before Nathan Ake profited from Karius's mistake to poke home the winner in stoppage time.

In an interview with Talksport after the victory, Cook said of Karius: "We did target him as a weakness."

That provoked an angry reaction from Klopp, who told the Liverpool Echo: “Actually, that’s one of the worst things I ever heard in life.

“That's the guy who won the game – I don’t know who it was – thinks he needs to say something like this after the game.

“I am really looking forward to playing Bournemouth again because of this. Win the game, have respect for the player of the other team. I thought ‘really, what did he say?’

“I don’t care what he thought, I don’t care what anyone said before the game. If they thought before the game that Loris Karius was a weakness then I don’t know which game they were looking at.

“The game before against Sunderland he saved our life in three or four situations. So maybe they watched games from Mainz.”
