Eddie Howe said there were "lots of good things for us to take from that performance" at a post-match conference.
He continued: "The game was on a knife edge until the first goal and it was a tough one to take.
"We were well in the game that point."
He praised new signing Lewis Cook: "He has a great mentality and is not daunted by anything."
