SHAUN MacDonald has ended his five-year stay with Cherries after completing a permanent move to Championship new boys Wigan.

MacDonald joined the Latics for an undisclosed fee – believed to have been around £250,000 – and has penned a two-year contract.

The Welshman completed the formalities earlier today but was not signed in time to feature in Wigan’s clash with Blackburn at the DW Stadium.

MacDonald, who joined Cherries from Swansea for £150,000 in August 2011, was restricted to just three substitute appearances in the Premier League last season.

The skillful midfielder, capped four times by Wales, signed a one-year contract extension in February and started all six games in the League Cup and FA Cup.

MacDonald played a starring role in Cherries’ League One promotion campaign in 2012-13 and also featured prominently in their first season in the Championship.
