DEDICATED Callum Wilson will not allow anything to get in the way of his summer fitness drive – not even his impending nuptials.

The Cherries frontman is keen to keep his fitness ticking over having only returned to action a matter of weeks ago following more than six months on the sidelines with a serious knee injury.

And while the 24-year-old will take a day out to marry long-term partner Stacey early next month, the big day will be sandwiched by plenty of hard graft in the gym.

Wilson, due to tie the knot on the same day Cherries skipper Tommy Elphick marries partner Hannah, told the Daily Echo: “Throughout the time I was injured, my missus was the main person that was there for me.

“To have a wedding this summer seems fitting with how the season’s gone given she has been there. It will be a nice moment but I will be working the day before and a couple of days after!

“That said, I don’t want to overdo it this summer. I want to give my leg time to rest but I will still be in the gym most days so my fitness doesn’t deteriorate.

“The past three months has been a hard slog on the training field doing runs here and there and I don’t really want to lose that and have to do it again.”

Wilson will hope to take his place in the starting line-up when Cherries round off their Premier League season at Champions League-chasing Manchester United on Sunday (3pm).

The former Coventry striker, who has five goals to his name this term, possesses the second-best goals-per-minute ratio in the top flight in 2015-16.

Liverpool’s Daniel Sturridge averages a goal every 111.1 minutes with Wilson next on 138.6 and Andy Carroll third on 151.9.

However, Wilson admits he takes such statistics with a pinch of salt.

“I did see that stat but that’s probably because I’ve hardly played,” he joked.

“It’s nice that I did get a good goals-per-minute ratio but it would have been better if I had done that having played 38 games this year.

“You don’t take much from those numbers but it’s something to try and build on for next year.”

The clash at the Theatre of Dreams will be played out in front of the Sky cameras with United’s European fate on the line.

And Wilson’s young son Oritse will be among the interested observers when 3pm rolls round.

Wilson added: “I have a few family members and friends coming up but now the game is on TV, it makes it easier for them to watch at home.

“They will be supporting as they always do and my little boy will be watching on TV, which is a bonus.

“Hopefully, I will get the chance to play and score.”

Wilson did not start last Saturday's 1-1 draw at home to West Brom but gave a lively showing after replacing former Wolves striker Benik Afobe in the second half.
