EDDIE Howe knows Cherries must turn the tide in terms of results but is urging supporters to resist the temptation to “overreact”.

Defeat by Newcastle saw Cherries slip into the Premier League relegation zone and extended to six matches their winless run in the top flight.

Cherries visit Swansea tomorrow with the Welsh outfit also experiencing an indifferent run having collected five points from their past eight games.

Howe said: “I know the table does not make for good reading and we don’t want to be in the bottom three but let’s not overreact.

“We know we’ve got to pick up points but there is a long way to go. We are very confident in ourselves that, throughout the season, we will get enough points.”

Previewing the visit to the Liberty Stadium, Howe added: “They are all key games, all big ones. Swansea is going to be a really good test for us. A lot has been made of their recent form but I still think they are a very good side with some good players.

“I have been a big admirer for a long time of their philosophy and how they play the game. It promises to be an attractive game.

“I was very pleased with most aspects of our display against Newcastle, bar the obvious ones. If we can match that performance and have better cutting edge, I think we will have a good chance.”

Despite leading Swans to their highest league position last season when they finished eighth, boss Garry Monk has come under pressure following their poor run of results.

Howe added: “It is difficult for me to talk about Garry Monk and Swansea’s situation. I think you only have to look at last season’s success which was an incredible achievement.

“I am sure they would have been looking and wanting to push on to greater success this season. But every club in the Premier League is trying to stop you and beat you.

“It is a difficult league and I think it says a lot about the strength and quality that teams like Swansea haven’t quite caught fire yet. It is up to us to go there and to continue from our Newcastle performance.”
