CHERRIES under-21s conceded in the dying moments as they suffered a 2-1 friendly defeat at Eastleigh today.

Stephen Purches’s troops went a goal behind before half-time but Josh O’Hanlon levelled soon after the restart.

Eastleigh, who featured a much-changed side in the second period, grabbed a winner after a corner had not been fully cleared.

Cherries started strongly and the physical presence of Joe Quigley and O’Hanlon caused problems for the Spitfires defence.

A useful cross from Jonathan Muleba picked out O’Hanlon early on but the former Longford Town frontman missed the target.

Tomas Andrade threatened down the right flank in the opening moments but the Eastleigh goalkeeper was equal to the Argentine’s efforts.

Eastleigh began to peg the visitors back and eventually forged ahead five minutes before the interval.

However, Cherries equalised soon after the break when Andrade surged to the byline and cut back for O’Hanlon to slot home.

Purches sent on Keelan O’Connell and Matt Worthington with 15 minutes left and they linked up immediately, with Worthington’s strike kept out by the keeper.

But Eastleigh snatched their winner moments after the ball had been half-cleared off the line.

Cherries: Stanton, Muleba, Lee, Buckley, Costa, Andrade (O’Connell, 72), Cannataro (Worthington, 72), Butcher, Walsh, Quigley, O’Hanlon. Unused substitutes: McCarthy, Jordan.
