HARD-done-by Callum Wilson insisted Cherries had suffered a costly triple whammy of bad calls at Cardiff – with his chalked-off goal the pick of the bunch.

The striker felt he had been upended by defender Bruno Ecuele Manga in the penalty area during the first half of Cherries' 1-1 draw in the Welsh capital and that the corner which led to City’s leveller should not have been awarded.

Referee Lee Mason then capped his calamitous display by ruling out Wilson’s effort after Cardiff keeper Simon Moore had thumped a clearance out of his hands against his stationary opponent’s back.

The ball ricocheted on to the crossbar with Wilson netting the follow-up, only to be booked by Mason.

And the 19-goal hitman revealed the referee’s explanation had left him none the wiser as to why the goal did not stand.

Wilson told the Daily Echo: "Their keeper kicked it at me and I reacted as any striker would by putting it in the back of the net. I was disappointed to get booked on the back of it because to be honest, I did not think I had done much wrong.

“He (Mason) said I was not allowed to do that and it was against the rules but I had stood still with my back to goal and the goalkeeper had the whole 18-yard box to move round.

"In the first half I thought I was clean through when centre-back pulled me down as well. It was a clear penalty."

Wilson explained that sharing the spoils had been doubly frustrating on the back of a dominant first-half performance during which Cherries boasted a whopping 77 per cent possession.

“We did not think they should have been given the corner they scored from so overall, we were really disappointed not to come away with the result," he added.

“Their style of football was the complete opposite to ours so we knew it would be tough in the second half. We knew we would have to keep ourselves grounded, try to repeat what we did in the first and not give them any set pieces or play to their strengths.

“On another day, decisions like that might have gone our way but should not let ourselves get too down about it because we still created plenty of chances.

“We have a big game coming up against Middlesbrough on Saturday and our focus has to switch to that now.”
