CHERRIES youngster Baily Cargill bagged his first international goal at Dean Court and then admitted that finding the net had given him an indescribable feeling.

Cargill thundered home an 86th-minute header that put England under-20s 2-1 up against Canada under-20s tonight, only for substitute Jordan Hamilton to level matters in injury-time.

And although his late effort did not prove the winner, Cargill was understandably pleased to score.

Fielding questions from the Daily Echo, the centre-half said: “I had gone to the back post on every corner until then but this time I went to the front post.

“I remember the ball being floated in and I thought, ‘this is my moment’ and I just stuck my head in there.

“As I glanced up I saw the ball go in the top corner and I just wheeled away. I can’t describe how good it was.

“The lads were all pretty pleased for me which was a really nice feeling. I’m close to a few of them as well so that made it a very special moment.”

Cargill was one of just three outfield England players to play all 90 minutes and the 19-year-old admitted that the clash had presented plenty of challenges.

He said: “I played with three different centre-halves during the game and I’ve never played with any of them before.

“I did find it quite tough to get to know their games but I think I coped okay. Conceding two goals is disappointing but you can’t always have it perfect.”

Cargill, who could feature when England face their Portuguese counterparts in Coimbra next week, said he had been unfazed by an increase in media duties since his England call-up.

He said: “I’d like to think I’m pretty level-headed and am capable of keeping my feet on the ground.

“I won’t let it go to my head. I have had quite a lot of media attention recently but I’m taking it in my stride and enjoying it.

“I think I’m quite calm and relaxed on and off the field – it’s just part of my personality.”

Cargill added: “I thought if I played in the Canada game then I might not play against Portugal but there have been a few injuries, so who knows?

“I will make sure I prepare right and I’ll be ready for it.”
