BOLTON Wanderers have sacked boss Dougie Freedman ahead of their clash with Cherries at the Macron Stadium tomorrow (3pm).

Freedman had been under increasing pressure following a disappointing start to the Championship season which saw the Trotters secure victory just once in 10 outings.

Bolton confirmed that the 40-year-old Scot had departed by mutual consent.

Chairman Phil Gartside told the club’s official website: “Dougie has worked tirelessly off the field to improve the infrastructure of the football club. Unfortunately, recent results on the pitch have not reflected all his work off it.

“The club has faced a difficult time following our relegation from the Premier League and Dougie has helped to restructure the club in order for it to become successful again under ever-tightening constraints.

“I would like to thank Dougie personally for all his commitment and efforts for Bolton Wanderers.”

Freedman joined Bolton from Crystal Palace in October 2012 and guided the Trotters to the brink of the play-offs – with only goal difference denying them a top-six spot.

However, a 14th-placed finish in 2013-14 was followed up by a disappointing start this term, prompting the club’s hierarchy to wield the axe.
