Eddie Mitchell tells the Echo that he will be looking to bring in a new manager "as soon as possible". Eddie Howe, Steve Cotterill and Gary Johnson among a number of names mentioned so far.
4:17pm
EDDIE MITCHELL REACTION: Cherries chairman Mitchell told the Daily Echo: “It is a sad day for me because I have seen what the boys have put into the club and the efforts they have made. A lot of the supporters aren’t aware of that.
“It is not an easy task to have to change things when someone has given their all and believes in what they are doing but it is results-driven. Unfortunately, the luck hasn’t been with them.”
4:16pm
EDDIE MITCHELL REACTION: CHERRIES chairman Eddie Mitchell has revealed he intends to waste no time in appointing Paul Groves’s successor and admits: “We have got to find a replacement as soon as possible.”
In an interview with the Daily Echo following this afternoon’s news, Mitchell said: “We can’t guarantee miracles. Somebody might come in and hit it off, somebody might not. We have got to search for who we believe is the right person.”

I'd have no problem at all with Groves and Brooks returning to the youth set up, they were doing a great job there. Some people are just more suited to it than 1st team football and I think PG & SB fall into that category. They were never quite good enough for the 1st team. Not going to try & pretend I'm not over the moon they have gone but good luck for the future to them both. Go back to the youth set up, that's where your strengths lie.
.
Would love to see Eddie Howe come home and finish what he started! Outside of him there are several managers out of work who could do a decent job for us but the time has come for no more promotions from within, get an established proven manager. If we get a proven manager the fans will back them even it's not their 1st choice. Up to us fans now to really get behind the team, we're about to start the next chapter so lets help our boys every step of the way. We may be managerless for a couple of games while the search is on so lets make sure we are the 12th man for the team. UTCIAD

Who in their right mind would want to manage a club with supporters as unrealistic' as yours. Paul Groves is an honourable man who was trying to do his best for the club and perhaps it was time for him to go, but the way he was hounded out by so called fans was appalling. I hope you get the manager you deserve. Me thinks Eddie Mitchell will have to work hard to persuade any 'big name' manager to join your little club

A commonsense decision for all parties, Groves included. Let's just hope that the club resist any temptation to make another hasty and ill-judged appointment; I would rather have a few weeks' hiatus and end up with the right man. Time to draw a line in the sand and avoid kneejerk reaction.

Here's the full text of Eddie Mitchell's statement:
On behalf of AFC Bournemouth, I would like to inform the supporters and media that as of this morning, Wednesday 3rd October, we have parted company with Paul Groves as manager and Shaun Brooks as assistant manager.
I would urge our supporters to recognise the time and effort that Paul and Shaun invested in the first team and their unwavering determination to produce an attractive brand of football.
As chairman of AFC Bournemouth, I have personally recognised the direction in which they were trying to take the team in terms of tactics and style of play, and throughout their time in charge they have had my full support.
However, I believe that luck has not been on their side during their short period at the helm. As we know, football is a results business, but most people will be unaware of the hard work and dedication that they put in behind the scenes to help this club move forward.
Both Paul Groves and Shaun Brooks have asked me to express their thanks to the support that they have received from the fans. We wish them well in the future, and who knows where that will take them.
All the best Paul and Shaun.
Eddie Mitchell
Chairman

I could understand what Groves was trying to do but he ran out of time. His style would have graced the Championship where I am sure he could manage successfully. But however, this is League One where a little more muscle and robustness needs to inserted with in our play.
.
We would not go too far wrong by giving Mr Brian Laws a call. He would then appoint his old assistant Russell Wilcox who is i believe still on our payroll, so therefore it would not cost us too much and we would have an experienced manager in place.
.

Your foul mouthed rant on a national radio station. Vote of confidence for your manager on Monday, sack him on Wednesday, ha ha ha ha you should get some sort of comedy award old son.

It was absolutely the right thing for Paul to go, for both him and the club.
I do however have massive reservations about the directorships ability to suddenly find some 'nouse' and appoint a credible person?
They have NO track record here except when they totally lucked out with Howe. I do believe though that it is a great opportunity for someone, the big question is...can they manage the relationship with the very volatile board members!!
I wish them luck whoever it may be.

With the current squad and 'investment' or 'funds' already committed there must be no rush decisions or cheap quick fix options.
The requirements for me are for an experienced manager with past success at this level, preferably above. Able to get the team playing decent football that will bring the fans (and gate receipts) back in. Must be able to motivate existing players and be able to attract decent quality players in the future.
A decent communicator would be good and must have the character to face up to the Board (politely!).
Finally, they (or their assistant) must be able to organise a defence.
Names? Would love Curbishley or Hoddle, dont expect Eddie or Harry back. Souness is local, possibly Ince.
Like Gary Johnson at this level, not a great Cottrell fan, but he would know what it is about.
My plea to EM is, dont just rush in, look at the names you have from when Bradbury left and the letters and emails you will no doubt get over the next few days. Think seriously about what the club needs to take us forward. Someone who can get us at least close to the play-offs this season and next season as a minimum.
just think before you leap.

UTCIAD

Yes the right decision - But what would be the point of sacking the pair of them when the likelyhood of us appointing another inexperienced manager is quite high ?? When you look at the other cheap options of Bond Quinn Bradbury Groves, all of which i stated were the wrong appointment as soon as they were made. How are we going to afford to pay them off, seeing that we are paying off Bradbury and wilcox at the moment ???. A few player sales I feel is on the horizon.
.

Nothing going to change if EM and TM continue to interfere with team selection and EM crashes into the dressing room.
I hope the new manager when appointed is NOT a yes man and has the intestinal fortitude to keep the Mitchell's under control. Really wish they would move out of DC onto a new developments.
