STAND-in skipper Charlie Gajic led from the front as Verwood registered a 2-0 win over struggling Romsey on Tuesday – their maiden Wessex Premier victory.

Gajic, a mainstay of last season’s Wessex One title campaign, donned the captain’s armband in the absence of Matt Delaney and opened the scoring.

His header, which broke Romsey’s resistance eight minutes from time at Potterne Park , was Potters’ reward for a dominant all-round display.

Mike Haskell nodded home a second in the 88th minute to put the finishing touches to a rampant performance which saw Verwood create a hatful of chances.

Potters: Toomer, Evans, O’Connell, Kelly, Smith, Gajic, Dyer, Steer (Midson, 71), Haskell, Satterley (Saxby, 66), Hill. Unused subs: Jones, Sheppard, Murray.
