CHRISTCHURCH’S 2-1 victory over Wessex Premier rivals Alresford on Friday prompted jubilant chairman Mark Duffy to perform a ‘Mobot’ jig on the Hurn Bridge pitch.

Duffy mimicked the celebration made famous by Olympic double gold medallist Mo Farah after Priory had booked their place in the FA Cup first qualifying round.

The triumph took Christchurch’s winnings in the competition to £2,750 – with the unexpected windfall being used to put a roof on their new changing rooms.

Priory will visit fellow Wessex Premier outfit Fareham in the next round on September 8 with another £3,000 in prize money at stake for the victors.

Substitute Dan Crutchley came off the bench to net the winner in the second half after Harry Cornick’s opener had been cancelled out by Carl Saunders.

Priory boss Graham Kemp said: “Our chairman must have been the happiest man in the ground because the prize money from this win secures the funding for the roof on the changing rooms.”

Kemp knows Christchurch will face a tough test to continue their progress after Fareham dumped out Southern League Division One South & West Wimborne on Saturday.

“It is a shame for the local area to have missed out on such an attractive derby,” said Kemp. “It would also have been good to meet half of my old team!”

Hot prospect Cornick bagged a sublime opener to give Christchurch an early lead, the teenager chipping Alresford goalkeeper Chris Waller from the edge of the 18-yard box.

The visitors levelled in first-half stoppage time when Saunders’s low shot from around 20 yards beat the despairing dive of Priory goalkeeper Jason Collins.

Priory, rocked by first-half injuries to David Legg and Ross Lloyd, were forced into another reshuffle after striker Ben Osborne was added to the casualty list in the 55th minute.

However, Lloyd’s replacement Crutchley seized on a loose ball and slotted low past Waller to seal victory as Alresford appealed in vain for offside.

Priory: Collins, Thompson, Taylor, Legg (Burden, 20), Lloyd (Crutchley, 35), Yelland, Smith, Roberts, Osborne (Griffin, 55), Cook, Cornick.
