SHELL-shocked boss Frank Gray described as “embarrassing” Bashley ’s display during their 6-0 thumping at the hands of Southern League fast-starters Hemel Hempstead.

The Tudors claimed pole position in the embryonic Premier Division table after condemning hapless Bash to their heaviest defeat since they rejoined the league in 2006.

Depleted Bash were on the back foot as early as the fifth minute when Charlie Mpi opened the scoring before Victor Osobu struck midway through the first half to double the visitors’ lead.

Osobu added a fourth after David Pearce had netted on 67 minutes before Matt Nolan’s late double added further misery for home supporters among a sparse Recreation Ground crowd.

Gray said: “It was an embarrassing performance that, hopefully, we won’t see again. We beat Frome on Tuesday and played well. We had our two centre-backs missing but can’t use that as an excuse.”

New boss Gray, who takes his charges to promoted Gosport Borough today (3pm), also admitted there had been “no positives” to take from the one-sided rout.

Bash: Kearn, Smith, Oliver, Strickland, Gazzard, Green (Lompato-Pires, 71), Casey, Hill, Stokoe, Speechley-Price (Farren, 85), Knight. Unused subs: Cooper, Vokes, Prodomo (g/k).

  • Boss Simon Browne was left to rue the concession of a “shoddy” goal as Hamworthy United bowed out of the FA Cup at Wootton Bassett Town on Friday.

Mark Barnes’s seventh-minute strike earned the Hellenic League Division One outfit victory as Hammers failed to repeat their extra preliminary round heroics against Bemerton.

Browne said: “With all due respect, Wootton Bassett were not the best side we had played this season. They were no great shakes but you don’t get second chances in the FA Cup.

“We gave away a shoddy early goal and that set the tone. The guys didn’t turn up and we let ourselves down a little bit. After beating Bemerton, it felt like a missed opportunity.”

Hammers: Murphy, Murray, Butcher, Horlock, Staines, Cannie, Penny (Clements, 80), Robinson (Hampton-Brown, 75), Corby (Halloran, 65), Currell, Pekun.
