Cherries trialist Jonathan Meades insists he will tonight have nothing to prove when he faces the club that showed him the door just three months ago.

Defender Meades has impressed boss Paul Groves since joining Cherries and was given a 90-minute run-out during Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Premier League new boys Reading.

The 20-year-old is again expected to feature when Cherries continue their pre-season friendly campaign by hosting his former club Cardiff City at Goldsands Stadium tonight.

Meades, who came through the ranks at Cardiff, was given a two-year professional contract by previous boss Dave Jones before current manager Malky Mackay released him at the end of last season.

“I was really disappointed to be let go,” said Meades. “That’s just the way it goes in football sometimes. I had a couple of injuries and things didn’t work out for me there.

“I am delighted to be here and just want to crack on. I have been training since Monday and really like it here. Hopefully, I have impressed in training and in the games. It was fantastic to get 90 minutes against a Premier League team. It was a great test.

“If I get the chance to play against Cardiff, I will just be looking to play my normal game. I would like us to get a positive result because I would like to beat them. I know a lot of the lads there and would love to play against them.”

Boss Groves has made no secret of the fact he is looking to bring in another left-back and Meades could fit the bill.

Groves said: “He fared well in a difficult fixture at Havant & Waterlooville and acquitted himself well against better opposition in Reading. I think we will look to try to do something with him. We will sit down and speak to him to see where we get to.”

Injured striker Frank Demouge faces a date with destiny tomorrow when he sees a specialist to ascertain the extent of his knee injury. Josh McQuoid , meanwhile, is today due to see a consultant regarding his ankle injury.

Cherries’ former Swansea City midfielder Shaun MacDonald, meanwhile, is sure to receive a hostile reception this evening.

MacDonald, who hails from the Blaenymaes area of Swansea, joined the club as a six-year-old and progressed through the ranks to earn his first contract in 2006.

MacDonald added: “Swansea against Cardiff games were always brilliant when I was involved in them.

“Cardiff are a really good team and do well every year but don’t seem to make it. I am sure they will be going for it again. I just hope Swansea can stay up and Cardiff can go up and we would have a brilliant game to look forward to in the Premier League.”
