Matt Ford is hoping sports fans will flock to Wimborne Road when Pirates host a Great Britain-Australia showdown “of the highest quality” next month.

The familiar foes will lock horns at Wimborne Road after Poole Coastal Aluminium announced that the club would be holding a Test Match between the nations.

Team Great Britain and Australia, who clashed in World Cup Event Two on Monday, will renew rivalries at Poole Stadium on Wednesday, August 1.

It will give Team GB the chance to avenge their loss at the hands of the Aussies, while there is also a possibility the reigning World Cup winners will be in action, depending on results in Sweden.

Pirates’ Turbo Twins Chris Holder and Darcy Ward are likely to top the bill for the men from Down Under, with Chris Harris set to skipper a British side managed by Poole boss Neil Middleditch.

Pirates promoter and owner Matt Ford said: “The idea of a GB-Australia Test at Wimborne Road is a mouth-watering prospect.

“Once again, I am truly honoured to be staging this Test and it promises to be a great meeting between two immensely proud speedway nations. Unlike the World Cup format, the Test will revert to seven-man sides and true team racing.

“The meeting is designed for August 1 as it runs right into the school summer holidays.

“I am hoping it captures the imagination and that fans, neutrals and new supporters will come out to watch a Test Match like this, of the highest quality.”

Pirates and Britain team manager Neil Middleditch added: “Great Britain and Australia Tests are legendary in sport and they remain, in my opinion, the most prestigious in speedway.”

Meanwhile, Pirates' redeclared one-to-seven, with Krzysztof Kasprzak replacing Adrian Miedzinski, has been approved.
