Lymington skipper Darren Cowley admits he is “quite looking forward” to watching at close quarters record-breaking Australian batsman Glenn Maxwell.

Maxwell, who last year clubbed the fastest one-day 50 in Australian domestic cricket, off just 19 balls, is tomorrow set to line up against Lymington for South Wilts (11.30am).

The 23-year-old – in common with Cowley – has a reputation for being an explosive stroke-maker and was recently signed by Hampshire as cover for their Friends Life t20 campaign.

Cowley told the Daily Echo: “I love watching batsmen like that and it can be quite entertaining as a fielder. I would rather see someone score 100 from 30 balls than from 60 overs.”

Maxwell, who played in the IPL for Delhi Daredevils, last month plundered a century from 31 balls – with the second 50 coming off just 11 deliveries – for Hampshire seconds against MCC Young Cricketers.

“I don’t think he has scored too many runs for South Wilts yet,” added Cowley. “Although I haven’t seen him bat, I am told you can’t set a field to him because he hits the ball to so many different places.

“It is difficult to have a plan when you come up against someone like him. To be honest, it is probably down to luck and you just have to bowl in the right areas and hope he either misses it or miss hits it.”

South Wilts top Division One after winning their first six matches, while Lymington head to Lower Bemerton without key all-rounder Damian Shirazi who is unavailable.

Lymington: Cowley, Treagus, Jaffer, Grierson, Gregory, Ellis, Freeman, Edwards, Beetham, Layman, Thacker.

Bashley skipper Richard Morris says Simon Ridley will struggle to raise his game against former club Bournemouth – as the all-rounder “always gives nothing less than 100 per cent anyway”.

Ridley, 24, who spent 14 years at Chapel Gate before leaving after missing out on the captaincy, will be hoping to help Bashley register their first win over Bournemouth since 2009 when |||they meet at Bashley Road (11.30am).

Morris said: “It is only natural there will be a little extra spice but Simon gives everything in every game.

“He is enthusiastic and has quite a lot of experience of playing in the league for someone of his age. We really like having him around.”

Bashley host Bournemouth on the back of a convincing six-wicket win over Lymington with both clubs having won two of their opening four fixtures.

Morris added: “Geographically, Lymington and Bournemouth are our two local rivals and there is no doubt they have both probably had the wood over us for a couple of years. But we are a changed team this season. We are slightly younger and have got a few new faces so will go into the game with a lot of confidence.”

Bashley are without Middlesex Academy teenager Ryan Higgins, who has Bradfield College commitments, and have called up Josh Digby from the seconds. Dave Kidner replaces Tom Wainwright for Bournemouth.

Bash: Morris, Thurgood, Webb, Baker, Terry, Friedman, Ridley, Neal, Nash, Lilley, Digby.

Bournemouth: Barlow, N Park, House, Lawrence, J Park, Evans, Hurley, Metcalfe, Quinn, Kidner, Staniford.

New Milton, fresh from their heroic two-wicket win over OTs & Romsey, travel to Burridge in Division Two (1pm).

New Milton: R Beck, Freeman, L Beck, Elliott, Loader, Mude, T Prodomo, J Prodomo, Gargaro, Neal, Locke.
