TEN-year-old Verwood racer Joe Leyland left his rivals biting the dust over the Diamond Jubilee Weekend meeting at Tincleton, near Dorchester.

The Emmanuel Middle School pupil celebrated in style winning the 2012 Southern National over a two-day motocross event held by the Ringwood Schoolboy Motocross Club (MCF).

Joe, who races in the Junior 65cc class, finished first in three of his six races over the weekend and claimed first-place trophy which was sponsored by Quick Skips of Bournemouth.

Joe is a regular member of the Ringwood MX club on his production KTM 65cc machine and has made vast improvements since his early days from the Auto 50cc ranks.

He didn’t have it all his own way, however, as his nearest rival Caleb Stone from Christchurch pushed him in every contest, also taking a number of race wins.

Joe’s sister and brother also race with the Ringwood MX club.

Molly Shutler competes in the Junior 65s, while elder sibling Tom Shutler races in the Small Wheel 85s.
