Broadstone captain Greg Parsons watched his team register their first win of the season and then predicted an exciting future for the club.

The skipper was speaking after Mike Holm ripped through the Weymouth batting line-up to lay the platform for Broadstone’s six-wicket victory.

Holm was brought into the attack as first-change bowler after Weymouth had already been reduced to 16 for three.

The seamer went on to claim four for 19 from his nine overs as Weymouth were dismissed for 136.

Broadstone successfully chased that target – thanks mainly to an unbeaten 66 from opener Luke Carter. Sam Chapman (32) shared an 84-run partnership with Carter to help Broadstone home.

Parsons said: “Improving on last year – when we finished fourth – is our first goal.

“We have got quite a young group this year and a lot of youth players are starting to come through. It is quite exciting.”

• Solid contributions from Dan Brockway, Alex White and Kev Robbins could not save Blandford from defeat at the hands of Dorchester.

Brockway (44) and White (38) top-scored as Blandford reached 165 for eight batting first.

Robbins returned impressive figures of three for 40 but the county town outfit won with four wickets to spare.

James Lewis and Sam Goodhew were the stars of the show for Dorchester, collecting five wickets and scoring 61 runs between them.

• Elsewhere, Poole Town’s home clash with Stalbridge was cancelled.
