WIMBORNE kept up their winning habit at the Havant mini festival, securing their third successive trophy.

The under-12s won all five of their matches, scoring 22 tries and conceding none. The same team also won the corresponding events at under-10 and under-11 level.

In the four-match group stage, Wimborne brushed aside Salisbury 3-0 in the opening game.

They doubled their tries tally in the next match against Newbury B before squaring up to the hosts.

In a rematch of the past two years’ finals, Wimborne and Havant locked horns in a must-win encounter.

With only the top team from the group reaching the final, Wimborne took a giant step towards defending their title when they toppled Havant 2-0 in their closest match of the tournament.

And Wimborne’s place in the final was secured when they floored Portsmouth 6-0 in the last group match.

Lining up against them in the final were Hampshire champions Trojans, who were the other group winners.

In the opening few minutes the Dorset outfit were pushed back towards their own try line after conceding an early penalty.

But the Wimborne players held their nerve and came back quickly to score the first try of the game.

The forwards had an effective game and provided the backs with quick clean ball as Wimborne ran out 5-0 winners.
