POOLE Town boss Tom Killick has left star striker Dan Cann sweating over his play-off selection after admitting he faces an attacking dilemma.

Dolphins complete their regulation Southern League season at home against Bideford today (3pm) – with a top-five spot already secured.

Poole are aiming to stay in the runners-up berth in a bid to gain home advantage in the Division One South & West promotion shoot-out.

Killick believes he will be spoiled for choice in attack during the play-offs, with Cann now available following a two-match suspension.

But the Poole manager says Dolphins’ leading league scorer faces a battle with Scott Joyce, Alex Baldacchino and Steve Smith for a starting spot.

Killick told the Daily Echo: “There is no doubt that before his suspension, if someone had asked me who would be our first-choice forward for the play-off game, I would have said Dan. But I think the way Joycey and Alex Baldacchino have played means that there is a decision to be made.

“And don’t forget that we have also got Steve Smith, who can feel like the unluckiest of the strikers because he is the one, in a way, who hasn’t had an opportunity in the whole season.”

Killick, though, is backing Cann to be raring to go, if selected, following his enforced rest.

“Canny is one of the players we have used most so I certainly don’t think it can have done him any harm,” added Killick.

“To have two games off and be able to get a game under his belt today, he should be at his maximum for the play-offs.”
