ISOBEL Glaisher starred as the Dorset Schools girls squad finished second in their class in the English Schools’ Cross-Country Championships at Ilton.
Glaisher, a St Mary’s School, Shaftesbury pupil, finished eighth in the intermediate girls’ race, clinching the final place in English Schools’ octet for the British and Irish Schools International in Perth.
Following her Inter-Counties 16th position with another powerful run, Bridget Dence (Bourne-mouth School for Girls) stepped up to place 20th against older girls in the Schools’ junior girls’ race.
The Bournemouth AC starlet was chased home by Dorchester AC’s Tara Chittenden (29th) and Poole AC’s Elisabeth Hood (42nd), lifting Dorset to their best team showing of the day in 13th position.
At 44th in the intermediates, Poole Runners’ Andrew Smith (Clayesmore) was the best placed of Dorset’s boys as their squad came fifth among the C class counties with under 60,000 pupils.
