CHRISTCHURCH boosted their prospects of a top-four finish after chalking up a 2-1 win over Wessex Premier rivals Romsey at Hurn Bridge on Tuesday.

Sam Griffin’s third goal in two games settled the contest in Priory’s favour after Ryan Long had netted to cancel out Dan Crutchley’s opener for the hosts.

Victory, which came on the back of an impressive 3-1 triumph at high-flying Bemerton on Saturday, saw Christchurch draw level on points with fourth-placed Moneyfields.

Priory boss Graham Kemp said: “They probably edged the first half and I was quite happy to reach half-time at 1-1. But we dominated the second half and should have won by more. It was a comfortable 2-1 win in the end.

“We wanted to break into the top five and had our eye on reaching a cup final this season. We are on target to achieve our aims and need to keep up the momentum for the remainder of the season.”

Goalkeeper Joe Prodomo is likely to be a doubt for Saturday’s trip to Blackfield & Langley after being forced off at half-time due to a recurrence of a back injury.

Priory: Prodomo (Collins, h-t), Thompson, Legg, Crutchley, Costello, Burt, Taylor, Fairbrother (Cornick, 75), Osborne (Lovell, 80), Griffin, Burden. Unused subs: Harris, Dand.
