WIMBORNE and Lytchett Minster rugby clubs joined forces to save the day after a Welsh side on tour in Dorset were left miles from home without a game.

Llanishen Rugby Club’s under-16s were on a half-term jaunt to the south coast and had been due to meet a Swanage & Wareham under-16 side.

But with the half-term break taking its toll on Swans’ playing resources, Wimborne and Lytch-ett formed a Barbarians side to take on the Welsh youngsters.

Wimborne’s under-16s coach Rob Dustan said: “Llanishen were in a bit of a spot and contacted us to see if we could get a team together and, working with Lytchett, we managed to get a side out and provide a pitch at Leigh Park to play the match.

“It was a great game and most of the touring side stayed around afterwards to watch our first-team game as well.

“From my point of view, it’s more about getting young people out playing rugby than any kind of club allegiance, so it was great to get the Wimborne and Lytchett players together in a Ba-Baas team.”
