BOSS Steve Riley is hoping Bashley’s morale-boosting midweek victory over Chesham can act as a springboard to the start of a revival.

Riley had been coming under mounting pressure after a dispiriting run of one win in 14 had seen Bash hurtle down the Premier Division table.

But the green shoots of recovery started to sprout when Bash saw off the high-flying Generals thanks to a comprehensive 3-1 win on Tuesday.

Currently six points clear of the drop zone, Bash will face another stern test tomorrow when they visit seventh-placed Chippenham Town (3pm).

Riley said: “I try my best with the resources at my disposal and the club has stuck by me through thick and thin. They have given me a vote of confidence to do the job and I know I can do it.

“We just needed a positive result to turn the corner and, hopefully, that came with the win over Chesham. Now, we need to kick on and get enough points to keep us safe. Our aim is to stay in this division and try to compete next season.”

Bash chalked up a 2-1 win against Chippenham at Hardenhuish Park in April 2010 but were on the receiving end of a Bluebirds double last season.

“We have had a few physical battles and some great games with Chippenham down the years,” added Riley. “We will have to roll up our sleeves and do the ugly things.

“We need to take our performance against Chesham into the game and try to keep the point we will start with. Anything else would be a bonus.”
