STEPHANE Zubar hinted he would like to commit his future to Cherries but insisted team success was more important than his personal situation.

The centre-half is vowing to put any thoughts of a potential new contract to one side as he aims to play a key part in Cherries’ play-off push.

Zubar signed until the end of the season – with an option for a further 12 months – when he joined the Dorset club as a free agent in September following his exit from Plymouth Argyle.

But the 25-year-old, who has made 10 starts and two substitute appearances for Cherries, says on-field matters will remain his primary focus as Cherries target a promotion charge during the second half of the League One campaign.

Zubar told the Daily Echo: “For me, my situation is not the most important, the most important thing is the club.

“If we can get to the play-offs in May, everyone will be happy.

“My situation is not the most important thing at the moment.

“I have five months left but I feel good here and I hope to stay in Bournemouth because we have good lads and I am happy and enjoy playing here.

“When I signed, I signed one year and a one-year option, but we will see. I will keep working hard – I want to help the club – and we will see.”

Zubar will be hoping to retain his place when Lee Bradbury’s men visit Walsall this afternoon (3pm). He played an important role in Cherries’ fine form during the festive period, returning to the team for the 1-1 draw at Brentford before featuring in the victories over Yeovil and Wycombe.

New signing Steve Cook is likely to come into the defence but with Adam Barrett an injury doubt, Zubar could get the chance to build on his impressive display against Wycombe.

Zubar added: “I was so happy because we played very well (against Wycombe).

“The back four were very strong and it was very important for us and for me because the past three weeks were very hard for me.

“I wasn’t in the squad and that situation is not easy, but I have to keep working hard.

“I know I can help the team. We have many games left and I want to do my best for the club.

“I signed here to help the club because I knew it was a great club, and we have great fans behind us. I am really happy to be here.”
