WIMBORNE Town boss Steve Cuss has hailed Tom Jeffes as “a quality striker” after reuniting with the frontman at Cuthbury.

Jeffes has joined the Magpies on a permanent basis after local rivals Poole Town agreed to release him from his contract at Tatnam.

He has signed on non-contract terms and returns to Wimborne after spending a loan spell with the club earlier this season.

The former Christchurch and Brockenhurst hitman helped Poole lift the Wessex League title after joining from Bournemouth Poppies in January 2011.

But after stepping into the Southern League for the first time in his career, Jeffes found his chances limited at Poole and netted once in 16 appearances, including six from the bench.

Cuss, who worked with Jeffes as assistant manager at Poole before taking over at Wimborne in the summer, said: “Tom had been frustrated with his chances at Poole and I have been constantly looking for additions.

“He is a quality striker who, hopefully, will come in and do well for us. He will give us good competition for places in the striker department. He has got the ability to play up front on his own and can also complement another striker in a two.

“He holds up the ball very well, he is good in the air and is a goal threat. Hopefully, he can come in and add a few goals for us.”

Jeffes, who netted once for Wimborne during his loan spell, is in contention to start when the Magpies host Division One South & West rivals Taunton Town tomorrow (3pm).

Cuss has the luxury of being able to select from a full-strength squad as the Magpies look to avenge a 2-0 defeat by the Peacocks in Somerset in September.
