CHERRIES new boy Charlie Daniels believes his left-sided partnership with Scott Malone can blossom.

Daniels impressed at left-back after being handed his debut during Cherries’ 0-0 draw with League One rivals Oldham on Saturday.

The 25-year-old, a deadline day loan signing from Leyton Orient, will make his move permanent once the transfer window has reopened in January.

“I worked well with Scottie,” said Daniels. “There is more to come from me and I can knuckle down in training and get to know the lads over the next fortnight.

“The good thing about Scottie and myself is that we are both left footed and can both play both positions so, if one goes forward, the other can cover and vice-versa.

“I like the way Scottie plays. He is good in the air and is a big, strong lad who likes to run at defenders and take people inside. I feel we can have a good partnership.

“When you come to a new club, you need to get to know the players. I know they like to play football and know we can play better. The main thing was not losing or conceding a goal.”

Daniels pocketed his first clean sheet bonus, much to the fury of Oldham who were convinced they had scored when Dean Furman’s shot was cleared off the line by Cherries defender Steve Cook.

“Don’t get me wrong, it was close,” said Daniels. “Cookie did unbelievably well to stop it from going over the line. They had every right to appeal but we got the decision.

“The most important thing for us was to keep goals out and we did that. I know they claimed it was a goal but, for me, it wasn’t. Apart from that, they didn’t trouble us really.”

Daniels, who was being tracked by a couple of Championship clubs, replaced Warren Cummings and knows he will face a battle for his place from the Scotsman.

He added: “I have come here to fight for my place and know it is going to be hard because Warren is a very good left-back. If he plays, I will back him all the way and, if I play, I think he will back me all the way.

“We have got a good relationship and, hopefully, it will continue.”

Discussing his decision to move to the Seward Stadium, Daniels said: “I know there were Championship clubs looking, but Bournemouth made an offer and sold it to me.

“Russell Slade (Orient manager) and vice-chairman Matt Porter said it was too good an offer to turn down. I know the manager very well and trust him. If it was too good to turn down then I believe him. I know this club is going places and want to be a part of it.”

Meanwhile, Cherries boss Lee Bradbury has opted against extending into a third month Jaime Peters’s loan from Ipswich. The 24-year-old has returned to Portman Road after making 10 appearances for Cherries.
