JAYDEN Stockley has joined Accrington Stanley on an initial one-month loan deal.

The Cherries striker has been restricted to just four league appearances this season, although the 18-year-old did find the net twice in Cherries’ 4-1 win over Hereford in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy in August.

Stanley boss John Coleman has been actively seeking a striker to address the League Two side’s lack of firepower, with assistant boss Jimmy Bell telling the Accrington Observer yesterday that the Lancashire club were on the trail of an experienced frontman.

Bell said: “We are desperate for an experienced centre forward and we have been enquiring everywhere for one this week.

“It’s clear we need a goalscorer and we have talked to a number of clubs about bringing players in on loan and talked about every striker available. We will move heaven and earth to get one in by tomorrow.”

Stockley, who made his Cherries debut aged just 15, goes straight into the Stanley squad for today’s clash against Bristol Rovers at the Crown Ground.

Coleman told the BBC: “I think he’s one of the youngest players to have played in the Football League.

“He’s keen to go out and play football and that’s what you want in lads of that age.

“Another striker is something we need. We had one in the pipeline that fell through last night and thankfully we had a couple of other options.

“We need to be addressing the fact that we haven’t been scoring enough goals and that’s the reason why we’ve brought Jayden in.”

Cherries boss Lee Bradbury has also given permission for Stockley to play in Stanley’s FA Cup first round tie at Notts County next weekend.

Bradbury told the club’s official website: “Jayden needs to play games and he is not getting many minutes at the moment.

“We looked at the situation for him and have been contacting clubs and Accrington came to us and asked if they could take him for a month.

“It’s great for Jayden because he will go up there and be involved in league football.

“He is looking forward to it and is excited about playing league football.

“It will sharpen him up and it makes you realise what you are missing.

“There is nothing better than playing games on a Saturday and competing.

“I have a duty to Jayden, and to every other player, to try and get them football and I have to look at other options for them. That is where we are at with Jayden at the moment.”
