TOM Killick has laughed off talk suggesting he could be in the frame for the Dorchester Town vacancy by joking: “My mum could go on a message board and link me with a job.”

The Poole Town manager believes speculation linking him with becoming the successor to Ashley Vickers, who was sacked last week, is “a little bit far-fetched”.

A three-times Wessex Premier-winning boss with Dolphins, Killick has continued to enhance his reputation by making a solid start to life in the Southern League.

Tatnam vice-chairman Chris Reeves admitted earlier this week that he would allow Killick to talk to Dorchester, if the Conference South Magpies lodged an approach, with the “consummate confidence” that the manager would stay at Poole.

When asked about the Dorchester job, Killick told the Daily Echo: “I almost seem to have been linked with the Dorchester Town job half a dozen times since I have been at Poole. Because I used to play there, I suppose it is a natural reaction, but I think it is pie in the sky.

“If they have had 15 people who have applied for the job, my assumption is they will appoint one of those applicants. Dorchester is a big club and they will have some very good applicants.

“If they made an approach to Poole, I would have something to think about and everyone would have something to think about. But unless that happens, you might as well ask me if I’m interested in the Barcelona job.”

The Daily Echo understands Christchurch manager Graham Kemp is in the running for the Magpies job, with former Cherries head of youth Joe Roach another possible contender.

Meanwhile, Killick is hoping to include Russell Cook in his squad for the trip to Bideford tomorrow (3pm) after the striker made a shock return to the club.

Just last week, the Dolphins manager had revealed that the former Christchurch frontman had opted to temporarily hang up his boots.

But with Poole suffering from injuries and suspension, Cook answered Killick’s call to sit on the bench last weekend and to start the Dorset Senior Cup clash against Parley Sports in midweek.

Cook scored in the second-round victory and Killick explained: “I asked him if he minded helping out and he said he would.

“In the Dorset Senior Cup, I wanted to try to rest some of the attacking players I had been using and asked him if he’d play. He did me a favour but we have got to have a chat between now and tomorrow to see what he wants to do.”

Adam Costello and Lamin Dibba will return for the Southern League Division One South & West clash at fourth-placed Bideford after missing Tuesday’s cup tie. Suspended Lewis Clarke is serving the final game of his three-match ban, while Tom Price (knee) is doubtful.
