CONTRACT U-turn keeper Shwan Jalal is targeting a first-team recall after telling boss Lee Bradbury: “I am ready to go when needed.”

Jalal says he is doing everything in his power to return to favour after losing his place to Darryl Flahavan.

The 28-year-old this week ended his long-running contract dispute by committing his future to Cherries.

Having rejected two offers of a new deal in the summer, Jalal looked to be heading out of Seward Stadium in August when chairman Eddie Mitchell said the club could not afford two first-team goalkeepers.

But in a dramatic turnaround by both parties, Jalal put pen to paper on a new three-year contract after he and the club had returned to the negotiating table.

However, he is likely to have to wait for his chance as first-choice Flahavan, an ever present in League One this term, has performed solidly since being given the nod by manager Bradbury.

Speaking after Cherries’ draw against Rochdale on Saturday and before agreeing his new contract, Jalal told the Daily Echo: “If the team keeps performing, there is no reason to change it. It is up to the manager. I have been training hard week in, week out and I am ready to go when needed.

“As I have said before, I was disappointed not to have started the season. But I am supporting the team through every game and I will be ready when called upon.

“I am doing as much as I can. Mossy (Neil Moss, goalkeeping coach) is keeping me on my toes.

“There are times when you get down that you are not in the team, but I am a positive person and I enjoy working with the boys in training.

“I try not to dwell too much on it in that I am giving it my best and I still believe in my own ability.

“It is one of those things and I have just got to wait to be given my opportunity and take it with both hands.”

The Echo’s request to interview Bradbury was declined by Cherries on Wednesday.
