PIRATES star Chris Holder fears his prolific partnership with Darcy Ward could be split up – because he claims rivals are jealous of Poole’s success.

The Australian duo have dominated the Elite League in 2011 after combining to spearhead Pirates’ push for honours.

Holder and Ward were central figures on Monday night and contributed 25 points towards the club’s grand final second-leg triumph over Eastbourne Eagles.

But that could be the last time the Turbo Twins perform together in league action for the Dorset outfit.

Some promoters are reportedly said to be pushing to keep a ruling that prevents clubs from selecting more than one rider with an average in excess of eight points – in a bid to keep costs down next season.

The British Speedway Promoters’ Association will meet during the winter to decide the regulations for the 2012 campaign. Team-building restrictions are likely to be high on the agenda and it is a topic that is sure to generate much discussion among club chiefs.

Grand Prix star Holder fears the worst. He claims people will want to bring an end to his and Ward’s partnership.

Asked if he would like to be back at Poole in 2012, Holder told the Daily Echo: “One hundred per cent – there is no other club you want to ride for.

“We have the best support ever. We got here at 5pm on Monday and the place was packed.

“By 7.30pm, there were people in the car park watching the meeting.

“That alone is a big boost for everybody. When we see the crowd and they are going off, the riders feed off that.

“There is going to be a lot of stuff going down at the (BSPA) meeting because they are jealous of how good Poole are and how successful we are.

“But I really don’t know what to say. It is pretty bad what is probably going to happen but, fingers crossed, it all works out.”

Pirates chief Matt Ford has already expressed his desire to see the points limit raised and Ward told the Echo yesterday that he could opt to walk away from British speedway if he cannot ride for Poole.

Holder claimed: “They want to separate Darcy and me. But if it wasn’t just in spite and they looked at the bigger picture they would see that if Poole have Darcy and me we have got to have a weaker second half of the team, and it takes seven riders to win a match. It is not two boys who can do it every time.

“But they just see Darcy and me and think ‘split them up straight away’. What can you do? We both haven’t done anything wrong and I think it is just sour grapes.”
