MATT Ford believes Chris Holder still doesn’t realise how talented he is.

The Pirates promoter looked on aghast on Wednesday night as the Aussie pulled one of the finest moves ever seen at Wimborne Road to surge up the inside of both Lee Richardson and Robert Mear in heat 13 of Poole’s 44-43 victory over Lakeside.

But Ford, whose spearhead will be aiming to keep his fine Grand Prix run going in world championship round six in Italy tonight, believes Holder has yet to fully comprehend just what he has achieved in the sport over the past 18 months.

Ford told the Echo: “To under-take two riders virtually on the straight is a racing line I have never seen taken at Poole in all my time there.

“It was a stunning race and I think the reaction of the crowd showed just what they thought of it and what they think of Chris.

“I was out in Canford Cliffs with Chris this week and we went into the Post Office and the convenience store and people were just telling him how fantastic he is.

“There is a lovely feeling about a kid, who doesn’t even brush his hair in the morning, walking along in flip flops and getting worshipped by people. He doesn’t understand what he is doing and what he is achieving at this club and on the continent.

“The Echo’s Neil Perrett told me on Wednesday after the meeting that the respect he has for Chris is so much more than any other sportsman he has covered for the paper.

“I was trying to explain to Chris about what Neil had said, but I don’t think he got it! I told him that the reporters at the Echo are primarily football writers but they are loving what he is doing.

“Everyone is talking about him but he really doesn’t realise it.”

Holder goes to Terenzano in third place in the world championship standings following victory in Gothenburg and podium places in Copenhagen and Cardiff.

Ford added: “I’ve been shouting this from the rooftops for ages, but it really is a luxury to have Chris Holder in our team.

“I just wish I could fill the stadium because if I got 5,000 people in there, I’d do tickets for £5 a head.

“I would do it, because I would love the whole of Poole and Bournemouth to come along and see Chris and Darcy Ward ride.

“It’s a wonderful time and it’s great working with them. It’s exciting times for the club.”
