MARK Wiggett thanked fellow Dudsbury touring professional Lee Thompson for his help after winning the Remedy Oak Pro-Am, sponsored by Kitchen Elegance.

After carding six-under-par 66 to pick up his first Pro-Am win of the season he said it was all down to advice from his best pal.

“I have had a few problems,” he said. “I talked it over with Lee and he has put me right. Hopefully this will be the start of further successes.”

Wiggett was happy enough in June when he made six top ten finishes, including third place in the Bournemouth Fourball Festival at Broadstone and Dudsbury.

But he has struggled the last two Race to Woodbury Park order of merit events at Bowood and Cumberwell Park.

But he returned to top form at the impressive Remedy Oak course making six birdies and an eagle at the par-five fifth hole.

Former European Tour player Andy Beal (Salisbury & South Wilts) was one shot behind. He managed six birdies but dropped a shot on the par five sixth.

Man-of-the-moment Michael Watson (Wessex Golf Centre) shared third with David Hutton (Hamptworth), Graham Howell (Ferndown Forest) and Martyn Thompson (Parkstone).

Watson was seeking his ninth win of the year but two holes from the end a wild tee-shot led to a double bogey. Martyn Thompson also had his chances by making seven birdies but he also dropped three shots.

Remedy Oak's Gary Emerson brought home the winning TECG team with a stunning score of 92 points helped by Paul Lovesy, Steve Carter and Nigel Stubbs. The three amateurs managed three gross birdies each on the back nine in making 50 points.

Jon Bevan (Wessex) led the 7 Day Catering team of Mark Boothright, Paul Robertson and Ben Wilson into second place on 91, making 49 on the back nine.

Former Southampton and England footballer Matt Le Tissier, Laurie Parsonage and Nick Holmes - The Saints - came third on 89 led by Stoneham pro Ben Johnson.

Graham Howell (Ferndown Forest) headed the DJN Associates team of Neil Hutchings, David Silverthorn and Bob Nicoll into fourth place on 89. Midlands pro Ian Clark and his Scolmore Ltd team of Gary Mordue, Scott Hansell and Bill Loughrey were fifh on 88.

Glenn Ross, the West Region secretary, praised the work put in by the club's director of golf Nigel Tokely and marketing manager Derek Silk.

He said: “The day was a resounding success on a course in wonderful condition. Remedy Oak is developing into one of the best newer courses in the country in such a lovely, tranquil setting.”
