JASON Doyle plans to go under the knife to cure his persistent shoulder problems.

Pirates’ inspirational Aussie has suffered dislocations on several occasions this term, his latest injury coming in last week’s first Test between Australia and Team GB in Poole.

But rather than miss any of the British season, the 25-year-old looks set to opt for a winter operation – meaning he will sacrifice the Australian Championships in a bid to be fit for the 2012 season.

Pirates chief Matt Ford told the Echo: “Jason has had this injury several times but it was a little different last week because apparently it moved and was digging into his ribs so his breathing pattern was quite strange.

“He’s done it six or seven times already this year and is something he is looking to put right with an operation at the end of the year, but it would mean three months off the saddle so he will hold fire at this point in time.

“It would rule him out of the Aussie championships but, to be honest, there is very little money to be made from that event. He is riding here and making good money this year because he is riding in two leagues.”

Ford, meanwhile, believes Poole Castle Cover fans are yet to see the best of skipper Davey Watt – and has predicted some fireworks from the Aussie before the end of the current campaign.

Watt has endured a season of struggle and has moved to purchase new engines in a bid to get his spluttering season moving.

The 33-year-old scored 13 paid 15 in Poland for Grudziadz on Sunday and will be targeting a double-figure return when Pirates meet Wolves tomorrow night (7.30pm).

Ford said: “We are yet to see the best of Dave this year, but it’s coming and we need it to because he will be key for us during the remainder of the season.”
