SKIPPER Sam Chapman admits the credentials of his buoyant Broadstone boys will come in for a stern examination over the next month.

The surprise packages continued their unbeaten Premier Division start and moved up to second position with a fine four-wicket victory over Weymouth on Saturday.

They chased down Weymouth’s 260 for six with four wickets and four overs to spare to remain in touch with league leaders Poole Town.

But despite managing to avoid defeat in their four matches so far against Ferndown Wayfarers, Suttoners (rained off), Wimborne & Colehill and Weymouth, Chapman confessed that that team’s upcoming fixtures would pose a challenge.

In three of their next four outings, Broadstone will have to contend with the other sides occupying the top-four places in the standings – Poole, reigning champions Parley and Dorchester.

Chapman told the Echo: “Our first four games were against teams who are probably going to be in the bottom half. We have stayed unbeaten but have a couple of tough games coming up.”

Broadstone’s latest success owed much to Robin Wallis (70) and Matt Thomas (47), who led the way as they reached the daunting target set by Weymouth.

Chapman added: “I thought 260 was a good score but the outfield was pretty quick and we did really well to chase it. It was a really good win.

“It was a tough game and we did well to come through it.

“We had a lot of youngsters in the side and they all played well when the pressure was on.

“Everyone is enjoying it and we hope to continue playing well.”

• Poole Town remained in pole position following a 59-run win over Stalbridge.

Ciaran Quinn (81), Dave Miller (43*) and Martin Miller (31) all made good contributions as Poole posted 237 for six from their 50 overs.

In reply, Stalbridge collapsed to 49 for six in the 17th over before Chris Hedges (44) helped them finish on a more respectable 178.

But that was not enough to halt Poole, with Jamie Thomas (3-41), Mansoor Khan (2-13), Joe Wilson (2-21) and Andy Groome (2-29) all enjoying success with the ball.

• Newly-promoted Suttoners secured a 57-run success over Wimborne & Colehill.

Overseas star Ashley Wallace hit 69 in the hosts’ 237 at Dean Park. Wimborne never recovered from slumping to 10 for three in reply, with Wallace and Paul McCann claiming three wickets apiece. Paul Harding also starred for Suttoners, conceding just 15 runs off his 10 overs.

• Defending champions Parley kept in touch by hammering struggling Blandford by 108 runs.

Captain Roshan Embalagama top-scored with 60 and Sam Collins hit 36 as they racked up 272 batting first.

Jack Rowett (5-34) then took centre stage as Blandford were skittled for 165.

• Ferndown Wayfarers (105) registered their first victory of the season by upsetting high-flying Dorchester (97) in a low-scoring clash.

Wayfarers skipper Neil Sexton claimed four wickets, while Lee Dunham (15) was one of just two batsmen to reach double figures for the victors.
