ADRIAN Todd’s Olympic ambitions remain firmly on course after he became national champion in three events in his native Botswana.

The Bournemouth-based 16-year-old recorded a string of personal best times as he won the 50 and 100m freestyle and 50m butterfly, prompting a glowing tribute from Botswana’s performance director Allison La Grange.

In an email to Swim Bournemouth’s coaches, La Grange said: “He looked good and strong in the water and is now the top man in Botswana in these events.

“His position in the water is much better as well as take-offs and turns. He is impressive to watch and we are very proud of him. With all your help, he has made so much progress in such a short time. Well done to you all.

“I believe with continued work on strength and conditioning, we can only keep looking forward.”

Todd, who joined Swim Bournemouth a year ago after being talent-spotted in a gala in Botswana, where his family lived for many years, won the two freestyle events and the 50m butterfly in long course times of 25.05sec, 56sec and 27.66sec.

He also swam the 50m backstroke and breaststroke in 32.6 and 33sec respectively.

Todd, who lives at Branksome, has high hopes of representing Botswana in London next year.
