MATT Ford has confirmed Gary Havelock will share a doubling up berth with Jason Doyle in Pirates’ team.

Doyle, who began the season without a team, scored four points from six rides on his Poole Castle Cover comeback during their 57-33 loss at Eastbourne yesterday.

The Australian, who also banged in 13 paid 14 from five rides for his new Premier League outfit Rye House at home to Ipswich on Saturday, was called into the Dorset side after Darcy Ward broke his shoulder and wrist in a moto-cross spill.

Redcar’s Havelock, who made five league and cup appearances for Pirates as their number eight last season, becomes the club’s fourth doubling up rider alongside Doyle, Christian Hefenbrock, who bagged seven paid nine at Arlington, and Kyle Newman.

Poole owner Ford, who had originally left Doyle out of his 2011 team despite the Aussie helping Pirates to Knockout Cup glory last term, said: “Jason has gone to Rye House in place of injured Steve Boxall but that will only be for six weeks.

“In the meantime, Gary will double up for us with Jason, but it’ll be Doyley doing most of the meetings.

“Gary will only come in if there is a clash of dates and Doyley has to ride for Rye House.

“Havvy was only too happy to help out and feels he can do a good job for us if required.

“The rules dictate we’re allowed to have four doubling up riders in a team, filling two berths.

“When Steve’s fit to resume at Rye House, or when Darcy’s fit to return for us, we’ll review the situation again.

“There are plenty of options open to us.”

The PZM, the governing body of speedway in Poland, meanwhile, have banned Polish riders from using the new silencers, introduced by the FIM, speedway’s world governing body, to reduce noise levels, on any track in the world.

But Dawid Lampart used one of the new mufflers yesterday and scored three points for Eagles in their triumph over Pirates.

Asked if the ban could cause problems for Pirates’ new boy Rafal Dobrucki, Ford said: “We’re expecting Rafal to be at Poole on Wednesday for the return against Eagles, certainly after Dawid rode despite Polish riders being banned from riding in England, Sweden, Poland, World Championship qualifiers and the GP.

“No-one can foresee what the outcome will be, but challenge matches are the perfect time to try the new silencers.

“If the new silencers don’t get to benefit the sport, the Poole club will be among the first to give their views on it.

“Let’s not jump the gun though. We’ll see what the riders think after our return home meeting against Eastbourne on Wednesday and go from there.”

Ford, who believes Eastbourne will be one of the teams to beat in the chase for the Elite League title this year, confirmed Renat Gufarov would receive physio on his injured shoulder in Poole today.

The Russian sustained a dislocation when he was sent tumbling by Lampart at Arlington, but Gafurov's shoulder popped straight back into place during the fall.

Like the Russian, Pirates captain Davey Watt also withdrew from the meeting early to have X-rays on a knee injury following a spill.
