MANAGER Simon Browne has welcomed praise of Hamworthy United’s entertaining style – but wants his defence to clamp down on the goal-fest.

Hammers have offered spectators great value for money this season, with their league games averaging four goals a match.

Championship favourites Poole Town are the only Premier Division team with a better scoring record than the County Ground outfit, who have notched 85 times in 36 fixtures.

He said: “I imagine we are a good team to watch.

“I know the long-time supporters are pleased with what they are seeing because they are seeing good football and plenty of goals.”

But what is more worrying for Hamworthy is the fact they have the worst defensive record in the league’s top 11, having conceded 59 goals.

Particularly as a former defender himself, Browne is hoping to tighten things up ahead of the visit of high-flying Bemerton tomorrow (3pm).

He has highlighted consistency as the key for his back four.

Browne added: “I believe the players I have are good enough to keep more clean sheets.

“I found that, when I played in the Wessex League with Poole, the big thing wasn’t about being particularly spectacular, it was about being consistent.”
