YOUNGSTERS from Corfe Mullen’s Castle Court School will be joining children from across the UK at the National Biathlon Championships at Crystal Palace next month following their success in the South West Championships at Bath.

The event involving schools from across the region comprised a 50m swim and a 500m run.

The year five boys’ team of Ben Samuel, Jed Skilton and Ludovic Rothman all produced personal best performances to top the table.

Samuel won the swimming, beating the national record set last year by 1.5 seconds, and was also the overall winner. Skilton came first in the run.

Samuel Wheeler from year seven will join them at Crystal Palace after coming fourth overall. He won the run by 20m and set a PB in his swim.

Izzy Pryce, who raced with the year five girls, achieved a PB in the swim and came 40th overall.

Headmaster Richard Stevenson said: “We have recently invested in the coaching that the children are able to receive for biathlon, duathlon and triathlon training.”
