CHERRIES’ caretaker boss Lee Bradbury has expressed an interest in signing combative central defender Mathieu Baudry.
The Frenchman, who has been training with Cherries for the past fortnight, has impressed Bradbury and assistant Steve Fletcher since they took the reins.
Although Baudry is under contract to French second division outfit Troyes until the summer, he has a clause in his existing deal allowing him to speak to other clubs.
Bradbury was keen to run the rule over Baudry during Cherries’ Football Combination clash at Exeter on Tuesday before discovering the player would not be permitted to turn out in a sanctioned competition.
As a result, Bradbury is hoping to watch him in a behind-closed-doors friendly or an informal trial match against strong opposition before deciding whether to offer him terms.
Baudry, who was invited to train with Cherries after being recommended to former boss Eddie Howe, is also believed to be a target for Lincoln City.
The 22-year-old, who stands at 6ft 2ins, is described by Bradbury as in a similar mould to Cherries skipper Jason Pearce and is re-nowned for his fearsome tackling.
Bradbury told the Daily Echo: “He is aggressive, good on the ball, wins his headers and is reasonably quick. He would be a good addition to the squad but we need to have a look at him in a game situation.”
A product of the Le Havre academy, Baudry was on the verge of joining Leeds at the start of last season, only for the move to collapse after the Yorkshire outfit had been unable to agree a deal with Troyes.
Meanwhile, Ben Williamson has also come in on trial with Cherries. Previously with Worthing, Williamson is a product of the Glenn Hoddle Academy.
