JOE Poynter made a record-breaking homecoming to reap a golden harvest at the second Bournemouth Christmas Open Meet – but his times won’t count as records.

Twelve months after joining Millfield School, the 15-year-old returned to Bournemouth Dolphins colours to dominate his age group at Littledown.

His hamper of Christmas goodies included victories in the 15yrs 100m freestyle and 200m backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly and individual medley plus one silver medal.

He was also awarded for the top male swim on day one (200m medley 2:10.34) and victory in the senior “skins” quick-fire knock-out competition.

In the 200m breaststroke and butterfly, his times of 2:27.95 and 2:11.28 were also inside the Dorset junior records, respectively set by Ashley Stevens in 1995 and Chris Campbell in 2007.

But they won’t count as records as Poynter competed in the 2010 Somerset county championships.

Swim Bournemouth’s Lottie McRae (Dolphins) and Fiona Hardie (Ferndown) battled for top honours in the girls’ events.

McRae won the award for the best female swim on day one following her winning 5:08.97 in the 15yrs 400m individual medley. She also won the 200m butterfly in 2:24.93 but met her match when she came up against Hardie in the 200m individual medley.

These two and team-mate Naomi Vides (Ferndown) produced one of the races of the day, Hardie just snatching the gold in 2:25.41 to McRae’s 2:25.64 and Vides’s 2:31.64.

The time also won Hardie the award for the best swim on day two, while Vides turned the tables by winning the senior girls’ skins.

Jack Burton and Christy Cole won the junior skins.

Poole followed up their Arena League Division One title a week earlier by winning the trophy for the best visiting club, despite the absence of some of their top swimmers at Millfield.

Ten-year-old Georga Harrison led their tally with six golds – in the 10yrs 100 and 200m backstroke, 200 and 400m freestyle and 200 and 400m medley.

Poole captain David Martins was a triple winner, taking the 15yrs 200 and 400m freestyle and 100m butterfly.

Andrew Botros topped Seagulls’ medal chart with eight golds – in the 12yrs 200 and 400m freestyle, 100 and 200m backstroke, 100 and 200m butterfly and 200 and 400m medley.

Cianan Mann struck gold four times for Seagulls while Peter Griffiths and Ellie Kerslake won three golds each.

Olivia Esposti was Bournemouth Dolphins’ most prolific medallist, winning seven golds – in the 15yrs 50, 100 and 200m breaststroke, 50, 100 and 200m backstroke and the 50m butterfly.

Christy Cole (Ferndown) also recorded a magnificent seven in the 13yrs 50, 100 and 200m breaststroke, 100m freestyle and backstroke and 200 and 200m medley. Team-mate Lucy Kirkham won six of the best in the 14yrs 50, 100, 200 and 400m freestyle, 50m fly, 200m breaststroke and 200m medley.

Four golds apiece went to Dolphins’ 13-year-old Ryan McCor-mack and Jack Burton, 14, and Ferndown’s Matthew Collins, 10, and Fiona Hardie, and three each to Dolphins’ Izzy Framp-ton, 13, and Peter Lawson, 14.
