INJURY victim Harry Arter is itching for a high-profile return at Sheffield Wednesday after vowing to use his enforced lay off to come back stronger.

The creative midfielder started Cherries’ League One opener at former club Charlton Athletic but then saw his first-team opportunities limited before undergoing double hernia surgery.

Arter, a summer signing from non-league Woking, went under the knife a fortnight ago and is targeting Cherries’ trip to South Yorkshire on October 23 for a potential return to action.

The Londoner, one of the star of Cherries’ pre-season campaign, is hoping to use his enforced lay off to improve his physical capabilities.

He revealed that he had learned valuable lessons from his time as a youngster at Charlton – when he confessed to not using a spell on the sidelines to his benefit.

Discussing his injury, the talented playmaker told the Echo: “It was definitely frustrating. But I’ll use the injury as a positive and try to work on other things.

“I don’t dwell on the negatives and will just try to get stronger in the gym and things like that.

“Probably when I was at Charlton, I dwelled on the negatives. I was down about it and probably didn’t use it in a way to try to get stronger in the gym.

“I’m definitely going to try to use it as a positive to get stronger and try to get back fitter.

“When you’re playing you don’t really get chance to do that. You’d rather just focus on working on technique and things like that, so now at least I’ve got a chance to get a bit stronger in the gym.

“I’m not going to sit on my backside and do nothing.

“At Charlton, I was really upset about getting injured and it’s easy when you’re injured to get yourself down and feel sorry for yourself.

“But I think I’ve learned from that and the best thing now is to try to use it as a positive and as a spur to get fitter and stronger.”

Arter, who was snapped up on a two-year deal by Eddie Howe after netting nine goals for Conference South Woking last term, added: “I’m targeting the Sheffield Wednesday game to be back. Hopefully, I’ll be fit enough to be involved.

“That’s probably one of the biggest games for us, stadium-wise and club-wise, in this league, so it would be nice to be part of it.”
